The Rites of Spring(Fest)

Announcing (for real) coverage of a mini-festival

The first time I really registered anything about Philadelphia Film Society’s SpringFest was around 2023, as I was in a car somewhere in Indiana going to my brother’s wedding and discovering a few things I would’ve liked to see. The first time I actually manage to go was also related to a family member’s wedding (my aunt’s) and – no shade to my family members – but I absolutely was not going to be missing an early screening of I Saw The TV Glow (it was worth it).

Since the last year – when it expanded to a full week – it threatens ever so more to become an actual bonafide festival something along the lines of New Directors/New Films over in New York, though here there’s frequently known quantities that probably would’ve been in Main Fest last year except for scheduling or something that’s coming out imminently. An extra screen of films isn’t much to complain about, especially given how some distributors have been acting with early screenings and with the amount, it lets me look forward to the future (my last assignment for IGN was 40 Acres, which I saw here). Consider this post something of an accountability post: I’m not going to do daily coverage other than Twitter but I will make my best effort to do a round-up after the fact if timing permits.

Up above is my schedule for the most part. I may shift a couple things around if it gets too late, energy’s low, etc. Press badge things baybee. There’s a lot I’m quite looking forward to and now looking at it I might do some mini-roundups just from the amount. Don’t hold me to that.
